The mysterious Prince's Rooms on the third floor of the Hoher Stock, which include the Golden Hall, the Golden Parlor and the Bedchamber, are among the highlights of a visit to the fortress. These rooms are a globally unique ensemble of late Gothic architecture that is nowhere else in Europe as well preserved as in Salzburg. The richly furnished princely rooms were built in 1501/02 by order of Archbishop Leonhard von Keutschach - for residential and representative purposes. In other words, the sumptuous rooms were intended to impress guests and demonstrate power. And that is what the Fürstenzimmer still do today: impress visitors from all over the world!
The multimedia Magic Theater in the Princes' Rooms takes you on a fascinating journey through time in the footsteps of the builder Leonhard von Keutschach. Learn exciting background information about the life and work of Salzburg's rulers and their subjects. Equipped with a lovingly designed game set, you set off on a journey of discovery through the castle. Skill and brains are required at seven game stations: meet the blacksmith for a duel, spin the wheel of fortune with the peacocks that were the fortress mascots in the 16th century. Play the "ring toss for love" with Countess Diemut von Högl. Or test your strength by pulling the rope on the Salzburg bull. And this is how it works: Simply pick up the game set in the garden of paradise from Zeugmeister Peter and set off on the hunt for the "Golden Turnip". Let the fortress games begin!

Real adventurers will want to climb the fortress on foot. However, it is quicker and more comfortable to take the fortress funicular, which travels up to the fortress every ten minutes. By the way, did you know that the funicular is the oldest funicular in Austria? It has been transporting visitors up to the fortress since 1892 - although it was still powered by water back then.
